The Sleza Mountain - the highest elevation of the Silesian Lowlands is sometimes referred to as the “Silesian Mount Olympus”. Its beauty and mysteriousness attract considerable numbers of tourists. The massif reaches a height of 717,5 m above sea level, and in pagan times it was certainly worshipped, which can be proved by various artefacts discovered there and examined by archaeologists. The Sleza Mountain is made of igneous and metamorphic rocks; the most typical rocks are granite and gabbro. The lonely mountain, surrounded by plains, is often erroneously taken for an extinct volcano. The Sleza massif has been a landscape park since 1988, with an area of 161 ha and the most valuable element of the park is its natural and varied landscape which comprises the lay of the land, the geological structure, the unique flora and the rich fauna.
