Participation and Photo Submission

Create an account, choose a suitable contest, submit your photos and follow scores and stages in your account. Practical guide: New to 35AWARDS? Start Here.
The limit depends on the contest type, account and current participation conditions. The actual available limit is shown in your account and on the upload page.
Additional options may be available through voting, bonuses, invitations or an upgraded account. The available option is shown near the upload form.
If replacement is available at the current contest stage, delete the old photo and upload a new one. The option depends on the contest and stage.
Open https://35awards.com/mypage/, click the photo or the gear icon in the top right corner. If deletion is available, the delete button will be shown.
Open the photo from https://35awards.com/mypage/ or use the gear icon. Editing availability depends on the contest stage.
A nomination cannot be changed for an already submitted photo. Submit the photo again with the correct nomination if the contest stage and rules allow it.
The basic format is JPEG, RGB color model, minimum resolution from 1500 pixels on the longer side. The annual award has shooting-date limits, and specific contests may add more requirements. See the rules.
No, if the rules prohibit several versions of the same source image. A color version, black-and-white version, crop or mirrored version may be treated as variants of one photo.

Contests and Nominations

35AWARDS runs the main annual award, themed contests, Express and Prime. They differ by timeline, participant pool and available results. See: Contest types.
A themed contest is focused on a specific topic, genre or subject. It helps test a photo among works of a similar theme. Requirements are listed on the contest page.
Express is a short themed contest with a faster cycle from submission to results. See: Express contests.
Prime contests are separate contests for participants with upgraded accounts. An upgraded account does not give an advantage in photo evaluation. See: Prime contests.
Yes, if your photos meet the rules of each contest. In themed contests, the same photo can be used only a limited number of times unless stated otherwise.
No. The annual catalogue is based on the main annual 35AWARDS results. Themed, Express and Prime contests have their own results.

Voting and Preliminary Scores

How voting works at 35AWARDS →

Preliminary percentage and final TOP % are different

The percentage shown next to a photo during preliminary comparisons reflects the current result of that work in pair-based evaluations.

TOP 1%, TOP 5%, TOP 10% and other final indicators appear in contest results and show the relative position of the photo among other works.

These are different indicators.

How final results are calculated →
Different stages use different groups of voters. The main award uses sequential selection, and the best works reach the professional community and international jury. More: How voting works.
No. The system does not show participants their own photos for evaluation.
The score is based on votes and comparisons. When there are few of them, even one new result can noticeably change the value. A preliminary score is not the final contest result.
No. A preliminary score helps you understand early reaction, but the final result depends on later contest stages.
Preliminary comparisons may stop automatically for several reasons, for example because of the current score, a problem with the submission, or a possible mismatch with the contest requirements. This concerns the preliminary evaluation process and does not by itself mean that the account has been penalized. Check any warning shown next to the photo and the rules of the relevant contest.
After each stage, photos are ranked according to the results of that stage. Most works advance automatically based on their position in the ranking. At some stages, the jury may additionally select strong works that did not pass the automatic threshold. Passing rules depend on the specific stage and contest. Because advancement is not always determined by the single score shown next to a photo. Different stages may use different groups of evaluations, and at some stages the jury may additionally select individual works after reviewing them. For this reason, two photos with similar visible scores can receive different stage results. How voting works →
The first stages contain too many photographs for the final jury to evaluate every submission in detail. Early voting reduces the number of works, after which the professional community and jury can focus on a smaller group of stronger photographs.
During active voting, the system processes a large number of evaluations and analyzes suspicious voting patterns. Votes or activity that appear artificial may be reviewed and, when appropriate, excluded from the results. The exact anti-fraud mechanisms are not published so they cannot be easily bypassed.
The required number of comparisons may change. The system evaluates the consistency and quality of voting and may request additional comparisons when more data is needed. This helps make the preliminary score more reliable and reduces the influence of random or artificial voting.

Results and Rankings

How results are calculated →
TOP 1% means that the photo finished within approximately the top one percent of works in the relevant contest or nomination. For example, if 1,000 photos are included in the relevant result set, TOP 1% corresponds to approximately 10 of the highest-ranked works. TOP % is a relative result. It is not the percentage of votes received by the photo. How results are calculated →
They are different indicators. A photo score belongs to a specific photo, while the photographer ranking is calculated separately according to contest rules based on the results of the author’s works.
TOP 100 Photos is the final list of the best individual works. TOP 100 Photographers is an author ranking calculated from photo results.
The main annual award forms the TOP 100 Photographers of the year. It is not the result of one photo: the author ranking is calculated separately according to contest rules.
The photographer ranking is not the arithmetic average of the TOP percentages of the photographer's three best photos. It is a separate indicator calculated according to contest rules from the author’s results relative to other photos and participants. More about photographer rankings →
Photos are evaluated through comparisons and later rating refinement, not through random score distribution. The final distribution therefore does not have to follow a normal curve.

Certificates, Diplomas and Catalogue

What participation gives you →
Available certificates and diplomas are shown in the participant account after the relevant results are finalized. Open your results or certificates section in your account.
Certificates are available only for results where the contest conditions provide them. If the result does not meet those conditions, the document is not shown.
In themed contests, certificates are available for qualifying results. In the current mechanics, this is connected with the photo or author entering the TOP 35% after the final stage.
The results page shows more complete and precise contest information. A certificate contains a more general and significant result, so some values may be rounded or displayed differently.
No. The catalogue contains selected works from the annual award results. A high result alone does not automatically mean publication in the catalogue.

Photo Editing and AI

Photo editing and AI rules →
No. Using Photoshop, Lightroom or another editor is not a violation by itself. What matters is which changes were made to the photo and whether they are allowed by the rules of the specific contest.
Yes. Normal color correction is part of digital photo processing unless the rules of a specific contest impose additional restrictions.
Removing a real object changes the content of the photograph and may be prohibited by the rules of a specific contest or nomination.
Sky replacement changes the content of the original photograph and is not considered ordinary color correction. Whether it is allowed depends on the rules of the specific contest.
AI tools that process existing image data should be distinguished from generative tools that create new content. Restrictions depend on the rules of the specific contest.
Generative Fill creates new pixels and may change the content of the photograph. Whether it is allowed depends on the rules of the specific contest and nomination.
Color and black-and-white versions, crops, mirrored versions and other variants of one source frame may be treated as one photo. If the rules prohibit several variants of one image, choose one version.
Works should not contain copyright plates, watermarks, added frames or other marks unless the specific contest rules state otherwise.

Moderation and Violations

How voting and work review happen →
If the note is correct, remove the photo and submit a version without the violation if this is still available. If you disagree, use the available button or action on the page.
Passing a voting stage does not cancel the rules. If a violation is found later, for example after a complaint or additional review, the work can be removed from the contest.
Use the available report mechanism on the site or contact support with a link to the work and a description of the violation. A complaint starts a review and does not automatically remove the photo.
If no warning is shown, the system has not detected an obvious issue at the current stage. This does not mean that the photo has received final confirmation of compliance with every contest rule. The author remains responsible for checking the requirements of the relevant contest and nomination.

Account, Limits and Bonuses

Upgrade account →
You can participate in 35AWARDS for free within the available limit. Additional options, limits and Prime contests depend on the account type and the specific contest.
No. An upgraded account does not give evaluation advantages and does not add votes. It only affects account features listed in the plan or contest description.
Bonus comparisons may be added when some earlier comparisons can no longer be used, for example after one of the compared photos is removed. After new comparisons are added, the preliminary percentage may go either up or down. The score is continuously refined as more valid comparisons are collected. This preliminary score does not directly determine the final result of the main annual award.
Voting helps the system compare photos and may provide additional options or bonuses under current rules. It should not be treated as a requirement to keep an already submitted photo unless a contest says so.
35photo.pro moderation belongs to the connected photo community, not to a separate 35AWARDS contest stage. If you need 35photo.pro moderation, sign in there with your 35AWARDS/35photo.pro account and submit photos for editorial review. Review time depends on editor availability.
