The Odra River has always been present in the lives of Wrocław citizens. For centuries, it served a defensive function, it was also helpful in trade to float goods. However, its recreational value was discovered only in the 19th century - it was noticed that the river can also be used for recreational purposes, and cruises on passenger ships have become the favorite pastime of residents. At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, there were already about ten ships sailing on the Wrocław section of the Odra River, including cruise ships 46 meters long and carrying over 500 passengers. On clear days, passenger cruises were very popular, social life flourished in 16 marinas, and restaurants along the Oder were bursting at the seams. Cruise ships, in addition to short cruises on the Wrocław section of the river, also made several-day cruises to attractive towns along the Odra River.
