For sailors, the light of the lighthouses is a testimony to the proximity of the shore and a safe, quiet stopover. In Kolobrzeg, the first navigational light, serving as a lighthouse, was lit in 1666, but the fire was lit occasionally - only when a ship was approaching the port. From 1866, the lighthouse in Kolobrzeg was lit every night, and the light was powered by rapeseed oil in a Fresnel lamp. In 1899, a new building with a 25-meter tower was built using the bolt technique. In 1909, the light half-timbered building was replaced with a more solid brick structure. In 1945 the lighthouse was blown up by German sappers because it was an excellent landmark for Polish artillery during the fights for Kołobrzeg. After the end of hostilities, the construction of a new lighthouse was started in a slightly different place, using the foundations of the mighty buildings of the "Ujscie" fortress.
