This photograph was taken in May 2025 while I was visiting Georgetown, Penang, Malaysia. I noticed how interesting the repeated colorful circles were, so I waited for someone wearing a contrasting shirt to enter the composition.
Nestled in the highlands of Ngada, Kampung Adat Maghilewa stands as a living testament to the rich cultural heritage of East Nusa Tenggara. Traditional houses with towering thatched roofs, sacred stone altars, and deep-rooted ancestral traditions create an atmosphere that feels both spiritual and timeless. Maghilewa is more than a village — it is a story of identity, harmony, and respect for generations past.
In this monochrome composition, geometry becomes music. Two façades — one woven like fabric, the other rhythmically framed — create a dialogue of light and shadow. The central column acts as a silent pause, dividing yet uniting the architectural orchestra. The precision and repetition evoke a sense of human order hidden in urban chaos.
A tiny snail embarks on a journey along a perfectly coiled tendril. Bathed in a soft golden rim light, this moment captures the intricate beauty of Fibonacci patterns in nature and the delicate balance of the macro world.
A traditional dalang carefully prepares wayang kulit puppets, reflecting the mastery, discipline, and cultural knowledge preserved through generations. This moment captures wayang kulit as both an artistic practice and a living heritage central to Javanese identity.
At dawn, the sea awakens in quiet harmony. Traditional fishing boats rest gently on calm waters as soft golden light spreads across the horizon. In the distance, mountains stand as silent witnesses to a daily ritual passed down through generations. This moment captures the balance between humans and nature a peaceful beginning shaped by patience, tradition, and hope.
A visual expression of the great poem Ashwamedham.
“A profound philosophical reflection on war, sacrifice, and human suffering, symbolised through the imagery of the Ashwamedha Yajna, an ancient Vedic horse sacrifice. Akkitham skillfully critiques the violence and destruction driven by human ambition, drawing striking parallels between historical rituals and contemporary conflicts.”
– The rating of photographers by countries and cities is based on the three best photos of the author and their relative position in each separate nomination. Rating in the nomination "Mobile Photography" is taken into account to a lesser extent for rating formation. The list by country and city shows one photo of the author with the best rating.
– Only those photos have been published in the list that passed the second stage of voting.
– Only one strongest photo from each author is counted in the Best Photos ranking. Even if a photographer has several published works, only the highest-rated one is used to calculate their ranking position. As a result, the order of photos in the list may not match the author's final ranking position.
