At dawn, when the temperature is still cool and the light is just beginning to tint the day, solitary bees rest motionless. They can\'t fly until the sun warms them enough, and that\'s when a magical window opens for their portraits.
I took this image at that perfect moment: one of those bees waking up on a leaf, covered in dew, still slumbering from the cold.
Unlike honeybees, which live in hives with thousands of companions, solitary bees don\'t form swarms. Each female builds her own nest, usually in soil, wood, or hollow stems, and feeds her young alone. Although their name may sound sad, they are actually essential for pollination and biodiversity.
Observing them so closely, in a moment of calm and stillness, is one of the most rewarding things about macro photography.
