The photo captures a tense moment as a robberfly preys on a horsefly. With its swift hunting abilities and sharp mandibles, the robberfly seizes its prey in an instant. This moment not only highlights the innate predatory instincts of the robberfly but also offers an impressive glimpse into the harsh world of insect survival.
Family
During my macro photography outing in Singapore on 9th June 2024, I captured a rare moment of a sweet potato bug family on a lush green leaf. A vibrant orange and black adult bug sat poised beside a cluster of newly hatched nymphs emerging from eggshells. The glistening water droplets and blurred green background enhanced the focus, beautifully highlighting this intimate glimpse into the insect world.
(Apoderys coryli) That crazy long neck isn’t just for show; the males actually use it to wrestle each other for mates. Found this female striking a pose like it owns the place. Gotta say, it’s a weird mix of elegance and pure freakiness.

Curiosity, which is the vital and survival instinct for all animals, is also the most important factor in the development of humanity. Curiosity can be a survival instinct such as protection from dangers, wondering about the source of fear; it is also the most effective element for the development of humanity such as learning, discovery, development and innovation. Let's imagine for a moment that human has no sense of curiosity: instead of making chips for computers, we were still sculpting spearheads like our ancestors.

Plexippus eating the Portia. The photo captures a rare moment where a female jumping spider from the Plexippus genus is preying on a Portia jumping spider – a species renowned for its sophisticated hunting strategies. This scene is not only remarkable for its sharp detail but also highlights the survival struggle between two master predators. What makes this even more intriguing is that the Portia, often considered a highly intelligent hunter, has now become the prey in this dramatic and uncommon encounter in the natural world.
Leaf Window
On a calm morning in the dense undergrowth, I noticed a damselfly peeking through a hole in a vibrant green leaf. The soft natural light accentuated the delicate texture of the damselfly\\\\\\\'s body and the intricate veins of the leaf. This moment, hidden in the quiet corners of nature, revealed the fragile beauty and symmetry often overlooked in the wild.

Tiger Beetle
Tiger beetles are among the fastest insects, capable of running at speeds up to 9 kilometers per hour (about 5.6 miles per hour). This speed helps them catch their prey and evade predators. Tiger beetles are voracious predators, primarily feeding on other insects such as ants, spiders, and small caterpillars. Their strong mandibles allow them to capture and consume their prey effectively.

Epeus hunting
Epeus jumping spiders belong to the Salticidae family, known for their vibrant colors and agile hunting behavior. Male spiders of certain species in this genus are particularly notable for having a tuft of sharp hair on their heads, often used in communication and attracting mates. This tuft not only gives the males a distinctive appearance but also serves as a signal for females to recognize them, while helping males display strength and capability during courtship. The color and style of the hair can vary among species in the Epeus genus, making them stand out in their environment.

Weaver ants live a social life, working in groups and helping each other, with each ant having its own role and value. I used to see weaver ants hunting at night near lights. One day, while I was watching in my backyard, there was a light where these ants had gathered, waiting for prey to come close. A stink bug approached the light, and the ants suddenly attacked it, pulling it toward the window. I was surprised to see that the ants\' color and the window\'s color were very similar, blending together. I quickly ran inside, grabbed my camera, and captured this beautiful shot. Afterward, the ants carried the stink bug to their nest to feed their young.
Life in a bubble
Amboli bush (Pseudophilautus amboli) froglets curling up inside their bubble eggs, probably for a couple of more nights before they are born. Very uniquely, this endemic species of frogs from the Western Ghats, India, don't metamorphose through their tadpole phase of life. The one in the center of the frame appears to be just a few hours away from taking its first breath on earth. So amazing is the natural world around us! Shot using a Canon EOS R5 and Canon RF 100mm Macro lens.

Calliphoridae
Forensic entomology is responsible for the use of arthropods as evidence in investigations. Its most important application is the estimation of the time between death and the discovery of the corpse. Arthropods carry out cadaveric decomposition, a continuous and measurable process. Those of greatest forensic importance belong to the Calliphoridae family (Diptera). Calliphoridae can colonize (egg) fresh corpses in minutes, using them as a resource for the development of their immature stages. Katydid Molting
During my night macro photography outing in Singapore on 29th January 2025. This stunning photograph captures a katydid in the process of molting, shedding its old exoskeleton to reveal its fresh, green body. Hanging upside down from a leaf, the insect carefully emerges, leaving behind its translucent, ghost-like former shell. The intricate details of the katydid’s wings, legs, and antennae are illuminated against a dark background, emphasizing the delicate yet dramatic nature of this transformation. Molting is a crucial stage in an insect’s life cycle, allowing for growth and renewal.
