Last year, while searching for sunflowers, I discovered this location and captured a Milky Way mosaic with a 135mm lens. But I left wanting an image that would truly showcase the sunflower field in all its glory. So this year, I returned—this time with my newly acquired 20mm lens—to capture a much wider view.
The result is this image, showing the sunflowers already facing east in anticipation of the morning sun. It’s always fascinating to think about how they track the sun’s path across the sky and even adjust their orientation overnight, ready for its return.
I arrived during blue hour to photograph a sharp foreground and focus-stacked 10 exposures to preserve detail. The conditions were ideal—barely any wind—but I had to contend with a swarm of relentless mosquitos. Let’s just say a bit of blood was exchanged for this photo.
