How 35AWARDS Results Are Calculated

35AWARDS has several types of results. The result of each photo is evaluated separately from the overall result of the photographer.

This is why a high photo position, TOP percentage, a photographer’s place in a country ranking, and reaching the TOP 100 are different indicators.

Individual photo result

Each photo takes part in its nomination and passes through the selection stages set for the contest.

After the stages are complete, you can see how high the photo was placed relative to other works in the same nomination.

The result may be shown as entering a certain percentage of the best photos in the contest.

Important: TOP % is a relative photo result, not the percentage of votes received.

What TOP % Means

If a nomination has 10,000 photos:

TOP 10%about 1,000 best works
TOP 5%about 500 best works
TOP 1%about 100 best works

The number of photos is used only as a visual example. The real result is based on the actual number and results of works in the relevant contest or nomination.

Passing stages and the final result are not the same

Photos pass through several stages of voting and selection. Passing to the next stage means the photo showed a strong enough result in the previous stage, but it does not automatically mean reaching the TOP 100 or becoming a winner.

This scheme applies to the main annual 35AWARDS. In themed, Express and Prime contests, the result structure may differ.

Photo result ≠ photographer place

One work by an author can have a very high result, while the final photographer ranking is calculated separately.

In the annual awards, the ranking of best photographers is formed by nominations based on the author’s three best single photos. However, the photographer ranking is not a simple average of the TOP percentages of those three photos.

Themed contests also use the results of several best works by the author, but the final photographer percentage may differ from a simple average.

Country and city rankings

The same final photographer result is used for different ranking views: all photographers → country → city.

These are not three independent contests. A country ranking shows the author’s position among photographers from that country. A city ranking shows the position among participants who specified that city.

TOP 100 Photos

TOP 100 photos are the best individual works of the annual awards.

TOP 100 Photographers

TOP 100 photographers are the final author ranking according to the annual contest rules. Having a photo with a high TOP percentage does not automatically place the author in the TOP 100 photographers.

Why numbers alone are not enough

Photos may take part in different nominations, with different numbers of participants, in different contests, and with different stage structures.

It is more accurate to look at the relative result of a photo within its contest and nomination, and at the photographer ranking separately.

Preliminary score and final result

A preliminary photo score before the contest is complete helps participants make decisions about their works, but it is not the final contest result.

Final results are formed after the voting and selection stages set for the contest.
