After 100 years, the Tawny Emperor (Chitoria ulupi) Butterfly was seen in India.
Tawny Emperor also was spotted at the NEN compound in Chizmi (Nagaland) as per the results of the study published in the Journal of Threatened Taxa. The single record of this butterfly after a hundred years was made in June 2013 when it was spotted sitting on human clothes at the NEN compound in Chizmi.
The Tawny Emperor (Chitoria ulupi)
are protected under the schedule I of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. North Eastern states of India have been hitting headlines for rare butterfly records lately.
