Acting
While carrying out a historical research of different subjects: political, economic, social, scientific, religious, artistic life, and other issues, most documentary sources refer to the presence and contributions of men. On the other side, it is difficult to find materials that refer to what has historically been done by women and this is totally unfair. However, we all know that despite the fact that gender roles and stereotypes have pushed to limit their lives, women have always been present, enriching all types of fields in multiple ways.
When we talk about roles, we refer to the functions that we perform in the social order. One issue that may still become somewhat controversial is the role of women in today's society. And to talk about the female scenarios, characters and fashion, I have conceived this series like a great stage or an open-air theater as a metaphor about how women behave or act, in opposition to how today's society expects them to perform.
As in my two previous series, "Circus" (2020) and "Performance" (2020) in "Acting" (2020) I've continued to explore drama and theater. But this time, I wanted to go a little bit further to open a debate between ethics and aesthetics from a feminist perspective. This series presents us the dilemma about the invisible set of rules women are asked to follow to be accepted or respected because that is what society wants from them. Aspects like fashion, style and appearance that at first may seem trivial or superfluous influence how women are perceived by others. They are often misjudged by their choices and their acting, and because of the senseless standards of beauty. Acting shows two women being free without imposed rules to work as a symbol of breaking the social impositions and ties.
