In the heart of the forests of the Santa Cecilia district in Risaralda, where the mist tangles itself among the leaves and silence is broken only by the perpetual dripping of moisture, I witnessed this moment of perfect stillness: an Oophaga histrionica resting on a leaf that still held the morning dew. Its vibrant colors contrast with the serenity of the green that supports it, as if the forest had paused its incessant rhythm just to contemplate it.
This small poisonous frog, endemic to the humid forests of the Chocó biogeographic region, inhabits only a narrow strip of forest across Valle del Cauca, Chocó, and Risaralda, a territory increasingly fragmented by deforestation and agricultural expansion. In this image, captured in a moment of absolute calm, the frog seems to exist outside of time, unaware of the threats encroaching upon its home, reminding us of the vulnerable beauty that still persists in these forests. This encounter becomes a silent dialogue between observer and observed, a fleeting moment of connection in which nature reveals its most intimate and fragile self.
