Rivers Photo Contest – 35AWARDS
A river as a photographic subject is always about motion, light, and scale.
It can be turbulent or calm, narrow or vast—but never static. In a strong image, the river does more than appear: it breathes, flows, mirrors the sky, fractures light, and sets the rhythm of the entire composition.
In this category, we seek photographs where the river is the central protagonist. People or animals may be included, provided they are seamlessly integrated into the landscape and do not distract from the presence of the watercourse. We especially value original perspectives, expressive interplay of light and shadow, and images captured in extreme climates or remote locations—from Arctic frontiers to the hidden corners of taiga and mountains.
Accepted:
- Daytime and nighttime river landscapes
Not accepted:
Images where the primary focus is on natural details such as flowers, grass, branches, tree trunks, etc.;
- Photographs centered on a person—whether through portrait, action, emotion, or figure—even if a river is present in the frame.
