About
Beetles exist in countless numbers across the globe—offering photographers an endless playground for visual experimentation. Their shapes, textures, colors, and behaviors create unique opportunities for composition, light play, and depth-of-field control. Matte or mirror-like surfaces, the geometry of elytra, and subtle movements among leaves or along bark all demand attention, patience, and an artistic eye.
The «Beetles» contest invites photographers to go beyond mere detail in macro photography—to capture not just form, but presence: the character, rhythm, and visual weight of these creatures as true protagonists of the frame.
Accepted:
- The beetle must be the central visual and conceptual focus of the image
Not accepted:
- Photographs of any insects other than beetles (including true bugs, butterflies, wasps, ants, etc.).
- Images in which the beetle is not compositionally dominant—e.g., too small, excessively blurred, or hidden without clear artistic intent
