The Streaked Weaver is a small bird living in Asia. They are known for their unique intricately woven nests made of plant fibers.
During breeding season, the male and female weave the nest together. They choose small tree branches and start weaving using their slender beaks to interlace plant fibers. The nest is a spherical shape with a narrow entrance on one side. The inside is lined with soft feathers, flower cotton and leaves.
After the nest is completed, the female lays 2-4 pale blue eggs speckled with brown. Both parents take turns incubating the eggs. After around 12-14 days the eggs hatch and the chicks are born.
For the first few weeks, both parents tirelessly care for the chicks non-stop. They continuously bring back insects in their beaks to feed the chicks. As the chicks grow older, the parents teach them how to fly and find food.
After 3-4 weeks, the chicks are able to leave the nest and start independent life. The Streaked Weavers demonstrate deep care and attentive nurturing of their offspring. The cooperation of the mated pair and their unrelenting efforts are key to the healthy development of the chicks
