I have had the opportunity to talk to young persons who are at the age where they should decide on their education subject and on their future life paths. The internet provides a lot of help, but career and life choices are complex. It is difficult to categorise the many information fragments and to structure them in order to achieve a complete and meaningful overview of all options. The situation gets even more complicated due to the overarching challenges societies face, including climate change, pollution, immigration, populism, and international wars. Rather than being able to just take a decision for themselves, many young persons feel that their choices also need to consider ethical values.
In this photo (Escher-like portrait of a young lady), I aim to express this confusing situation by hiding the model behind an impossible, Escher-like contortion and the cubist element of an inverted face, representing the unachievability of finding a satisfying life choice solution.
