Through different skin tones, shapes and sizes,
They came as one to shine and break all social standards.
Representation matters.
We have so much beauty, culture, diversity and uniqueness in our South Asian community and yet,
We live in a society where we still need to be portrayed in a certain way to be defined as beautiful.
As a woman, we are judged based on our appearances first instead of how strong and talented we are.
If only we were told that we are beautiful just the way we are.
If only there were no discriminations within the community.
If only there were more representation of different skin tones, shapes and sizes on TV, social medias, and magazines.
If only we were not pressured with so much of unrealistic expectations as a child (or even as adults).
It’s time to acknowledge our roots, our culture, our diversity and our uniqueness.
It’s time to appreciate ourselves for who we are and how we look.
It’s time to be liberated from all the noises. Let them say whatever they want. You start loving and appreciating yourself first.
Beauty comes from within. You need to change your perspective, so that you would empower someone else the same.
In hopes that in the future generations to come, they would ask, “What are social standards?”
