Iphiclides feisthamelii (Papilionidae Family)
► A large and showy butterfly, easy to observe both in the countryside and in the city. The common name refers to the black stripes on the wings, forming a striped pattern in flight. The females lay their eggs in a wide range of trees, both wild (such as blackthorn or catapereiro), and fruit trees from orchards, such as pear, apple and peach trees. The eggs are laid individually and the caterpillars have a slow development, therefore not causing great damage to the host plants.
Wingspan: 55 – 80 mm
Worldwide distribution: North Africa, Iberian Peninsula and Southwest France
