The custom of sharing self-portraits made with the cell phone has become a global phenomenon, but the exaggeration in this behavior - which has earned the name “selfite” - worries mental health experts.
A survey, published in the “International Journal of Mental Health and Addiction”, concluded that this behavior has become an obsession for most fans, and can be divided into three degrees: at the limit, acute and chronic. In dictionaries, the term obsession is described as a “fixed idea; excessive preoccupation with one thing and that makes it difficult to think about another; neurosis, compulsion ”.
Today we live in an era of daily and constant connection, in which we bring reality into the virtual world and that includes both good and bad things.
Here I make a series of selfies photographed in a cascade of water to capture the different distortions and strongly altered traits, evidencing this phenomenon of contemporaneity and the neurosis of selfies, since neurosis is related to the issue of compulsion and repetition.
O costume de compartilhar autorretratos feitos com o celular tornou-se um fenômeno global, mas o exagero nesse comportamento – que ganhou o nome de “selfite” – preocupa os especialistas em saúde mental.
Uma pesquisa, publicada no “International Journal of Mental Health and Addiction”, concluiu que esse comportamento tornou-se uma obsessão para grande parte dos adeptos, podendo ser dividida em três graus: no limite, aguda e crônica. Nos dicionários, o termo obsessão é descrito como “ideia fixa; preocupação excessiva com alguma coisa e que dificulta pensar em outra; neurose, compulsão”.
Hoje vivemos numa era de conexão diária e constante, na qual trazemos a realidade para dentro do mundo virtual e isso inclui as coisas boas e também as ruins.
