Procession of Misteri, Trapani, Sicily.
The participation of children in religious processions is a true social baptism, mostly unconscious, in which indoctrination and disguise prevail. To please the adults and to be able to actively participate in their traditions, the little ones walk for hours, even at night, carrying candles, simulacra, crosses, and dressing as adults. Entrusting the children to the divine power is a way to protect them in their newly begun life.
