The peregrine falcon inhabit extremely variable habitats. Their habitats includes mountain ranges, river valleys, coastlines and increasingly cities. They feed on medium-sized birds such as pigeons and doves, waterfowl, songbirds, waders, smaller birds of prey and game birds. These falcon species also feed on reptiles, small mammals and insects. During the stooping flight, the prey is typically struck with a clenched foot, stunned and captured in mid-air.
The Peregrine Falcon is anatomically adapted for extremely swift flight. When pursuing prey, these falcons can swoop down at incredible speeds in excess of 300 km per hour!
I was really lucky to see this peregrine falcon hunt an Egret in the desert f Little Rann of Kutch, India. The Egret was dead in few moments, and this juvenile Falcon then flied away with its catch.
