That is where my childhood memories are and where the memories of my daugther's childhood will be. The traces of my family are everywhere, either on the life episodes that took place there or on the objects that remain. But not all is fixedness in Areias Farm. First, the railway arrived, then the locomotive fabric. Later, there came the neighborhood allotment. With it, the precarious sewage – the one that breaks and turns the once beautiful lake into a tank of rotten water, wich contaminates the groundwater. Along the road, garbage. A motel for the lovers is improvised on the grass. From improvisation, a city is born and, little by little, swallows the farm and insults my memories.
This photographic series is a documentation of that process in images I have been producing since the year of 2006 in the farm owned by my family since 1964. 5km from Sete Lagoas' downtown, the property is 90 hectares large and holds the biome of cerrado, wich is one of the most threaten of the Brazilian biomes. My relationship with nature is afective and the urbanizaion process changes not only the landscape, but also the way I feel the farm. Violence has raisen up in the region: gunshots incidents and robberys have broken the barrier between the intimacy of the house and the new times of the surrondings.
I am an observer, but also part of that history I have been documenting for the last twelve years. And that history has not come to an end yet. Tha farm is now for sale and my photographic work there will reach an abrupt end when the deal is closed. Do you want to buy it?
