This photograph portrays a young boy from a disadvantaged background, taken in a poor school in Tunis. He is playful, energetic, and restless — he does not enjoy staying seated in class and would rather play outside. I met him during an event organized for children.
Inside the classroom, he asked me to take a picture of him, just like the others. He stood beside a window. On one side, sunlight lit up his hair and the right side of his face; on the other, there were small scratches, the cause of which I do not know.
His eyes are bright, his smile mysterious. This photograph is deeply special to me. Every time I look at it, I feel many emotions. It is as if his gaze carries a silent message: “I want to play, I want to fly, despite everything.”
