The Battle, the Heat, and the Fight for Survival
The air shimmered with heat, the very earth radiating waves of exhaustion. Dhanauri Wetlands, usually a sanctuary of life, now felt like a furnace. Even the camera lens struggled to focus through the sweltering haze.
And yet, life here never pauses.
In the midst of it all, a battle was brewing.
A Sarus Crane, towering and majestic, had seized a snake—a hard-earned prize. But victory is never absolute in the wild. Its eager partner watched intently, stepping closer, hoping for a share. But hunger does not wait for permission.
Overhead, a Black Kite, sharp-eyed and fearless, saw the moment unfold. In a world where survival is a game of opportunism, hesitation is a weakness. And so, it swooped down—a thief in the sky, unbothered by the chaos on the ground, fixated only on the prize.
Survival. Hunger. Instinct.
But beyond this dramatic chase, another battle loomed—one far greater, one far more devastating. Encroachment. Habitat loss. A shrinking home for the very creatures that define this wetland.
Dhanauri is not just a stage for wildlife spectacles. It is a lifeline—a fragile ecosystem that must be protected. As we stand witness to these breathtaking moments, we must also ask ourselves: What will remain if we do not act?
The heat will pass. The battles will continue. But will the wetlands endure?
That choice is ours.
