Aurora Australis over Northern Argentina – May 10, 2024
On the night of May 10, 2024, an exceptionally strong solar storm made the Aurora Australis visible from unexpected locations across the world—including northern Argentina at 25°S latitude. While photographing the night sky from Recta del Tin Tin, a deep red glow appeared on the horizon. Initially, it seemed like light pollution, but upon reviewing the images, it became clear that this was something far more extraordinary: a rare sighting of the Southern Lights in this region.
This event was part of a major geomagnetic storm that created one of the most widespread aurora displays in recent history, allowing people far from the polar regions to witness this phenomenon.
