Volcanoes in Ecuador are characterized by having different names, some are 'taytas' (fathers) or 'mamas' (mothers). The Andean cosmovision classifies the mountains as 'Apus,' understanding that each volcano is an entity that cares for and protects the land, but with an eruption can demonstrate its strength by destroying everything in its path. Mama Cotacachi is a protector of water, her extensive grasslands form a large part of the eastern mountain range of Ecuador in the province of Imbabura. Since 2016, I have been making trips to visit this majestic volcano, and this 2024 was incomparable, the perfect weather to see the giant Mama Cotacachi and capture her peak with the seasonal ice. All this experience is captured in a photograph taken with the Xiaomi Mi8.
