According to local legend, the villagers of Kulasekharapatnam were oppressed by the demon Magisasuran.
The villagers prayed to their goddess, who reincarnated as a child named Lalithambigai.
Lalithambigai grew up to be a powerful deity who destroyed Magisasuran on the tenth day of Navaratri.
Festival
The festival lasts for ten days, beginning with Navaratri and ending on Dussehra.
Performers dress up in colorful attire and enact different characters from mythology.
The performers perform rituals with drums and bugles in front of the villagers and then at the temple.
The programs vary from village to village in terms of makeup, color, and idol personification.
