She was Aida Aroni Chillcce, who passed away this year. This photo was taken during the Toma de Lima, one of the bloodiest and most violent protests in Peru. In this image, I was able to capture Aida begging the police, holding onto their feet, pleading with them not to throw tear gas at the protesters.
Despite her plea, the police did the exact opposite and violently repressed the demonstrators. After this photo was taken, Aida was arbitrarily detained for 48 hours in a cell, without food and without visitors.
