Aralkum - the ecological disaster with the Aral Sea
The ecological disaster with the Aral Sea is well known. Its level has been gradually decreasing since the 1960s, mainly due to the large-scale irrigation projects. The situation is now extremely bad in the South Aral Sea, in the Karakalpak Autonomous Region of Uzbekistan, where more than 90% has dried up. The high salinity has killed most of its flora and fauna. The Aralkum Desert appeared on the seabed once occupied by the Aral Sea. During a trip to Uzbekistan I was able to see and experience it. Pictures of disasters should remind us that man, despite technological advantages, is not the master of the world and is not stronger than the laws of nature. At the same time there are colorful hills not far from the coast of the South Aral Sea, which can be experienced as beautiful at sunrise, despite the awareness that not so long ago here was the bottom of the Aral Sea.

- The rating of photographers by countries and cities is based on the three best photos of the author and their relative position in each separate nomination. Rating in the nomination "Mobile Photography" is taken into account to a lesser extent for rating formation. The list by country and city shows one photo of the author with the best rating.
- Only those photos have been published in the list that passed the second stage of voting.
