Canting is a pen like tool used to apply liquid hot wax. Canting is made of a copper wax container with a small pipe spout and bamboo handle.
The spout tip is blown on to allow liquid wax to flow smoothly - then it is used to draw lines or dots on to the cloth following the patterns previously drawn by pencil.
Batik is an Indonesian technique of wax-resist dying applied to the whole cloth. Its patterns are diverse and is influenced by variety of cultures. In 2009 UNESCO officially recognized Batik as a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity from Indonesia.
