Seaweed farming
Seaweed farming is one of Zanzibar's robust export businesses, and it employs more than 25,000 farmers, women making up 80% of them.
Exporting seaweed was profitable, but processing it as a product turned it into a higher profit. During the low tide, you can watch the farming process.
First seaweed is gathered and put into small groups, then attached to rope lines hanging on wooden sticks. When all is done and the seaweed is fully grown,
it is harvested to be dried and put on a dry net in the shade. Turning into purple, that's when the farmer knows that it's dried and ready to be grounded.
Grounded seaweed is an essential component in many cosmetics products
