Ready- Set- Go

The throat fan in males of Sitana ponticeriana is brilliantly colored with red, blue and dark shades during the breeding months. When running quickly they often adopt bi-pedal mode of locomotion. I shot this image at Chalkewadi in Satara district. I observed this male to repeat the path while patrolling his territory. This is the only lizard in India known to adopt bi-pedal locomotion. It took me three years to get this image the way I previsualized.

The Fan-throated Lizard Sarada superba is a beautiful agamid found in most parts of India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka & Nepal. These gentle agamids are colorful dragons of the modern world. These lizards have a thin flap of skin called a gular appendage, between their throat and their abdomen which they can flap/ flash at will. Normally these appendages are whitish or creamish in color, but what’s interesting is that during the breeding season (mainly May-June) the males of these species develop a wonderful coloration ranging from blue-black-red. They take positions over small rocks or branches on the ground and flash their brightly colored gular appendages to attract other females and also to warn off other males about their territory.

The majestic cascade of white water, gushing over the steep, nearly vertical face of the mountain from a spectacular height of 1017ft; is both breath taking and awe inspiring, making one aware that there are many forces in nature much more powerful that the human mind and body.The name ‘Dudhsagar’ literally translates to ‘sea of milk’ which many believe is an allusion to the white spray and foam that the great waterfall creates as it cascades into the waters of the lake. The falls are at their zenith during the monsoon season, although they are a popular attraction all year round.

Majestic Munnar Morning

I was on a family tour to Kerala, India, one of the beautiful states of India, By 4th day of tour we were in Munnar, Kerala, India, This place is really beautiful in its own way. Wherever you see it is a beautiful landscape, In morning around 5 am we left from our Hotel in Munnar for sight seeing, as we were moving in a bus, i witnessed the beauty of Munnar. Even though i could not stop the bus for photography i manages to click pictures from the window itself. This picture could be considered one of the lucky shot i clicked from the window, trust me majority clicks from windows turned out to be beautiful, but this one is my favorite. I wish to visit the place once again with full preparation.

This shot is from my recent trip to Langza Village in Spiti Valley, India. It is a great time to watch these animals going to their respective farms after grazing in the mountains. Shepherds don't need to guide them because these animals are smart enough to know which farms they belong to. Though they create a dust storm while returning but its an amazing visual to see animals and people working together.
