In this photo, I wanted to capture the essence of one of the most impressive predators in our small world: a Robberfly. A stack of 112 photographs, thanks to my OM-1\'s Focus Stacking mode, allows me to unravel every tiny detail, revealing its true majesty.
Its gaze is hypnotic: two enormous compound eyes packed with tiny facets that give it almost panoramic vision, essential for hunting. Every drop of dew on its head reflects the sunrise, while its antennae, like tiny spears, detect the slightest movement.
Its body is a living arsenal. Its spiny, robust legs allow it to grip its prey with surprising strength, while its powerful jaws, hidden among the dense hairs, are ready to inject its lethal venom.
The golden background color and the warm tones of its body hair enhance the feeling that this insect seems to have come from a parallel universe. Every detail, every filament on its body, reminds us how incredibly complex and fascinating the insect world is.
With this portrait, I wanted to show not only its ferocity but also its vulnerability. It remained impassive in front of my lens, allowing me to take a great series of photos.
