Le vieux ksar d‘El-Menéa a été fondé au début du Xème siècle par les Zénètes venus de la région de Timimoun et Gourara, plusieurs peuples ont habité le vieux ksar. Ses premiers habitants seraient les Zénètes. Le ksar a déjà vécu sous l'autorité d'une reine Zénète "M'BARKA BENT EL KHASS".
La période Zénète a été caractérisée par la réalisation de grand travaux de plantation de palmeraies ce qui a induit une grande prospérité dans la région et les commerçants Ibadites de la tribu des "At Khefianes" ont aussi habités le ksar, mais à partir du XVIème siècle jusqu'à sa prise par l'armé Française c'est l'occupation du ksar par les "Châamba Lemmadhi".
Le ksar est bâti sur une colline dominante et isolée, et parait comme une île submergeant les dunes de sable sa conception est d'essence défensive et exprime le génie de ses constructeurs
Le vieux ksar est le seul témoin historique de la région d'El-Menéa et représente donc son seul patrimoine en histoire et en architecture, et d'une valeur historique, archéologique et architecturale certaine.

The old ksar of El-Menéa was founded at the beginning of the 10th century by the Zenetes who came from the region of Timimoun and Gourara, several peoples lived in the old ksar. Its first inhabitants would be the Zénètes. The ksar has already lived under the authority of a Zenete queen "M'BARKA BENT EL KHASS".
The Zénète period was characterized by the realization of great works of plantation of palm groves which induced a great prosperity in the region and the Ibadi traders of the tribe of "At Khefianes" also lived in the ksar, but from the XVIth century until it was taken by the French army, the ksar was occupied by the "Châamba Lemmadhi".
The ksar is built on a dominant and isolated hill, and appears like an island submerging the sand dunes its design is defensive in essence and expresses the genius of its builders
The old ksar is the only historical witness of the region of El-Menéa and therefore represents its only heritage in history and architecture, and of a certain historical, archaeological and architectural value.
