This photograph was taken at Fraser’s Hill, Pahang, and remains one of the most meaningful and adventurous images I have captured to date. It took four days of patience and repeated visits to achieve the moment I had envisioned.
On the first day, I managed to photograph the Collared Owlet, but I was not fully satisfied. As this species was a mega lifer for me, I had a clear dream image in mind a single clean branch, a calm forest background with fresh green reflections after rain, and most importantly, a strong and direct gaze from the owl.
On the final day, despite heavy rain, I trusted my instinct and returned to the location, carefully protecting my camera and lens with rain covers. After the rain stopped and the forest was fully soaked, the moment unfolded. The owlet emerged quietly from a large fern nearby and perched directly in front of me, exactly as I had hoped.
In that brief moment, the forest felt generous a reward for patience, persistence, and belief. This image stands as a reminder that sometimes nature gives its best when we choose to wait.
