CHE (Crested hawk Eagle), An often seen predator bird in Indian Forests, is a medium size raptor, often predates on other birds, chicks of birds, squirrels, hare, snakes, lizards, at times new born monkeys as well. Their sharp talons do the job of holding its victim while strong beak tears the flesh. They vary in different Morphs (dark & Pale) and crested/ non-crested subspecies.
We can hear their high-pitched ki-ki-ki-ki-ki-ki-ki-ki-kee sound in forest, especially during breeding season, December to April. They usually sit on branches above ground, waiting for prey to come out and when prey in sight, strikes with its Talons, get hold of it and flies with prey to a tree perch. They certainly have dominance above ground in the forest.
