Behavior of Oriental Dwarf kingfisher & My observation and notes
Lifespan - 15 years
Starts just before Monsoon
Mating - 2 days
Laying eggs - 4 to 5 days
Incubation - 14 to 15 days
Feeding babies - 20 to 21 days. They find a small hole in a vertical thick muddy ground as their nest & have an acute scanning procedure for predators before entering the nest. Believe me, if they have any doubt, they keep the kill in their beak but do not enter the nest to jeopardize the lives of their babies.
Both, male & female do approximately 30 rounds of kill everyday starting 6 am to 6 pm & the kill is evenly distributed amongst the babies.
When the babies come out of the nest, parents feed them just for one day & they migrate, until next year they can be seen again, in the same nest, same time, same cycle...
