One of the most fascinating animals in nature are none other than our gentle giants the Elephants... i can spend hours watching them , here is a series of elephants in various moods ....they make a great series in monochrome and this is my humble attempt to present my series of these beauties each of these pics has a beautiful story to tell.I have taken these series from a 20 mm lens handheld to 600 mm.

Fish Wars

Kamchatka brown bears although solitary, congregate where there are plentiful sources of food and the Kuril Lake in Kamchatka is one such area. The bears bulk up to the abundant nutrition in the salmon and are particularly aggressive at times fighting over rights to prime fishing spots as well as over food. Most of the day is spent on the banks of the Kuril Lake where you set up and wait for opportunities to photograph. Given the density of bears at a given place, focussing on one individual in the melee is a challenge and one has to be guided by patience, keen observation and anticipation. I was patiently waiting for the opportune moment to be able to isolate this particular bear that despite a few futile attempts, was not ready to give up. He had been eyeing his catch intently, hoping to stake claim, when another bear swooped in and stole it from him. What ensued was a wild swipe and a clear display of annoyance. It was all over in a flash. Fortunately there was no obstruction at this opportune time and it allowed me to freeze the moment. He was so close, yet so far, and I could only empathise. Cluster Feeding

The Indian Desert Fox is a sub species of the Red Fox, found in the desert region of Gujarat and Rajasthan in India. Due to increasing loss of habitat their numbers are fast dwindling and getting restricted to select pockets in the desert region of India. During a morning safari in Little Rann of Kutch, we came across a vixen sitting on a sand hill near a ground hole, which looked like a den. After clicking some images of the vixen I decided to wait to see if pups come out of the den and get playing. The vixen after a long wait gave a small call and the pups came out to play in full action. Their playful fights soon turned ugly and the mother decided to intervene with what looked like the best solution... Feeding. The pups immediately understood the signs and frantically started feeding, getting me some good shots of the caring mother, her love and her pups......

This photograph was shot at a cultural event in Mumbai where people portrayed themselves in the characters based on Dashavatar where 'Dash' means ten and 'Avatara' means incarnations i.e ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu to restore Dharma and to eradicate Evil. India is filled with varied occasions, cultures, and people where color plays a major role in celebrations. Hence people during this occasion were dressed up in colorful costumes and facial makeovers and tried to reach the character\'s features as close as they can, performed a play based on the story of Dashavatar.

They find a small hole in a vertical thick muddy ground as their nest & have an acute scanning procedure for predators before entering the nest. Believe me, if they have any doubt, they keep the kill in their beak but do not enter the nest to jeopardize the lives of their babies. Both, male & female do approximately 30 rounds of kill everyday starting 6 am to 6 pm & the kill is evenly distributed amongst the babies. When the babies come out of the nest, parents feed them just for one day & they migrate, until next year they can be seen again, in the same nest, same time, same cycle...

Tribals in Satpura

Tribals in the Satpura range have been celebrating Holi for the last 774 years at a small hamlet called Kathi in Nandurbar district, Maharashtra. Some fifty thousand people mostly tribals come from the neighboring states like that of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh to come together to celebrate this unique Holi celebration every year. Marking the festival through song and dance, dressed in traditional outfits, they celebrate throughout the night after maintaining celibacy for twelve days through strict traditional and religious rituals. However, in this unique Holi, there is no place for colorful hues, as they don't use any sort of color except the ash retrieved from the bonfire.
