An interacting scene of a sperm whale and a freediver at the depth of 60ft among Indian Ocean. The sperm whale seems very friendly and curious, and seems that it accepting the presence of the diver, their movements look like they are dancing together in beautiful sunrays among deep blue ocean.
Our incredible encounter with titans of the deep among Indian Ocean, we had to maintain the balance & buoyancy when freediving while quietly observing & filming these 02 sperm whales sleeping vertically next to each other at the depth of 15 meters (50 ft) without disturbing them or interrupting their sleep.
Although we still don’t know for sure why sperm whales sleep vertically, there are several theories that scientists have come up with. It could be because it makes waking up easier, or because sleeping this way helps them control their breathing. Another possibility is that it’s a way for them to protect themselves from predators or stay safe within a group.
Whatever the reason may be, it’s definitely an interesting phenomenon.

This critter is among my favorites in the Pacific Northwest, often found in dive spots with stronger currents. Typically elusive, they tend to hide behind anemones, making them difficult to photograph. However, on this occasion, one lingered at the center of an anemone, creating the perfect composition to showcase the symbiotic relationship between the shrimp and its host. Capturing this shot required me to navigate against the current, but it was well worth the effort!

A close photograph of a family of sperm whales socializing with each other off the coast of East Africa , Indian Ocean. Sperm whales are known for their intelligence and complex social behavior.
