Portrait of Aymoldir Daiynbek, a 14-year old eagle huntress from the remote Altai mountains of Western Mongolia. She follows the footsteps of her father and grandfather, and was crowned the winner of the 2023 Golden Eagle Festival, in which hunters and their golden eagles are tested based on speed, agility, and accuracy.
A deep spiritual calling for Mongolia led me on an off-grid pilgrimage in October 2023, into the heart of it's westernmost province Bayan-Olgii, near the Altai mountains which border Russia, China, and Kazakhstan. The following five portraits aim to capture the fascinating faces of the Berkutchi, the semi-nomadic eagle hunters who continue to master the ancient art of taming and hunting with golden eagles, the apex predators of the sky.
- The rating of photographers by countries and cities is based on the three best photos of the author and their relative position in each separate nomination. Rating in the nomination "Mobile Photography" is taken into account to a lesser extent for rating formation. The list by country and city shows one photo of the author with the best rating.
- Only those photos have been published in the list that passed the second stage of voting.
