This is the reason behind the ‘air walking’ concept about this tribesmen from the community known as ‘Banya’, ‘Bena’ or ‘Benna’. There are over 47,000 Banna people whose main economic activity is hunting, pastoralism and low-scale farming.
What’s interesting about them is their rich history that continues to intrigue the world in this 21st century. All this is thanks to ‘Beshitas’ – a local name referring to stilt walkers.
Young men from this tribe walked on stilts as a mechanism to avoid attack by wild animals while herding cattle. However, this is not the only reason why stilts are common in this part of southwestern Ethiopia. For young males, it represents a transition from youth to maturity and is a rite of passage. Striking a balance on the poles and walking gracefully sends a strong message to the tribe that the boy is responsible, independent-minded, strong-willed and is confident to take on life. A rule for banna tribe stilts walking during a ceremony is painting their bodies in white strips.
Milky Way over Quiver Tree Forest (50mm panorama), September 2023, Namibia
Boarding South Africa the region of Keetmanshoop has its own character. The terrain is mostly flat and builds long plateau shaped structures going down from Kalahari Desert to the Atlantic Ocean. These trees can be fine in Namibia everywhere but they mostly grow in the south. One of those place where you can frequently see them is a Quiver Tree Forst near Keetmanshoop, a paradise for astrophotographers as well. I wanted to capture the Milky Way core setting in the west behind the trees. The light of the Milky Way is falling on the plants and stone and reminds me this magic moment when I was alone there to capture the scene.
The Bierpinsel (or beer brush, as it is unofficially known) is a 47-meter-high building built in 1976. It is noted for its futuristic architecture and is part of the pop art movement. The building has been listed as a protected structure since January 2017. Photo taken in Berlin, Germany
Bella is a traumatized dog who has a lot of fears. Due to the shoots and a lot of training she meanwhile is pretty good in the city. But her eyes will always show that she is an insecure animal
St Bartholomew's Church. The palace and pilgrimage church were founded by the Prince-Provosts of Berchtesgaden in 1134. The triple-concha design of the church dates back to 1697; the stucco-work is by the Salzburg master Joseph Schmidt. In the 18th century the summer and hunting palace was rebuilt, with older building sections incorporated. After Berchtesgaden became part of Bavaria in 1810, the palace became a hunting lodge for the Bavarian kings and was one of their favourite haunts. Since the Romantic period, the world-famous pilgrimage church, set against the Watzmann range, has been a source of inspiration for numerous landscape painters.
The proud PRE stallion Faraon.
One of my favorite photos.
It was taken in an indoor riding arena on and with the help of a fog machine. The large window front seemed very interesting for a photo of this kind.
The window
This early morning when I start my snowshoe tour at the Austrian alps near the mountaineering village Praxmar and looking at the peak Lüsener Fernkogel with a really high elevation of 3298m.
Like a window the clouds open a hole for an amazing view at this so beautiful mountain. It is the first coloured light who hits the peak and covers the scenery in a warm tone. After a half hour there and a lovely dancing of the clouds I decide to begin my hikeuntil the hut Westfalenhaus wich offers a winter room for hikers..making fire and rest for a while there.
Interpretation of the photo of the builders of \"top of the rock\" in New York. At the same time, it represents the broad children\'s imagination, and their ease of imagining being what they want at all times.
This portrait of Sophie was taken in an old factory within the debris and remains of former times. Yet Sophie put on that dreamful gaze, a shining light within a crumbling place, creating that wonderful contrast and chemistry between her and the surrounding fallen world around her.
