An invaluable piece of Croatian history
The Glagolitic script is the oldest known Slavic alphabet created in the 9th century by Saints Cyril and Methodius. The Glagolitic alphabet (Croatian: glagoljica) was used in Croatia for over a thousand years when it was replaced by the Latin script.

This stone sculpture represents the Glagolitic letter "L" and it is located at the entrance to Jurandvor, on Krk island. This 4.45 m high and 20 tons in weight letter is one of the 34 stone sculptures on the island and it is a part of Baška's Glagolitic Trail which leads you through winding cobbled streets and many natural wonders on the island. A trail is the best way to discover the stories of the Glagolitic script, an invaluable piece of Croatian culture and history.
