Faith
During Holy Week in the Philippines in March or April, many Filipinos perform a panata, which has come to mean a repayment for a prayer or wish that was granted.
One popular form of Panata for Filipino Catholics is to whip their backs in flagellation until the skin bleeds. They walk the streets with a crown of thorns placed on their heads. Other devotees have themselves crucified on wooden crosses using steel nails.
