Taken at the Dong Ky Firecracker Festival, held on the 4th day of the Lunar New Year in Bac Ninh, Vietnam.

The image captures the moment of the “Quan Dam” procession, a highly anticipated ritual in which selected village men are lifted by strong young participants.

Dressed in traditional costume and symbolic makeup, the Quan Dam performs spirited gestures, representing ancient warriors departing for battle.

Beneath him, dozens of hands rise together, forming a living foundation of strength, unity, and faith.

Each year, four men turning fifty are chosen to embody these generals, preserving a centuries-old tradition that celebrates courage, community, and cultural identity.
