In the picture, two fallow deer stags are locking horns against the golden backdrop of the autumn forest. With their palmate antlers interlocked, they test their strength in the intensity of the rutting season. The scene captures one of the most intense moments of the fallow deer’s mating season: the struggle for territory and females, often accompanied in the background by deep, grunting roars.
