Beklemeto pass, also known as Troyan pass, is a mountain in the balkan mountains (Stara Planina) in Bulgaria. It connects Troyan and Karnare on the Karlovo Plain. The Freedom Monument (Arch of Freedom) on Beklemeto was officially opened on August 26, 1934. The idea for its construction dates back to 1879, with the first stone being laid on May 24, 1928. The monument is dedicated to the Russian troops and Bulgarian volunteers who passed through the pass during the Russo-Turkish War. The place is magnetic and during the clear and warm months of the year, the arch becomes like a window that looks into the core of the Milky Way.
