The 'Ndocciata which takes place in Agnone, a mountain center in Alto Molise in the province of Isernia known for its thousand-year-old production of bells, is the "Christmas tradition linked to fire".
From the beginning the 'Ndoccia (a dialectal phoneme that stands for "big torch") was certainly part of the pagan ritual linked to the solstitial deadline of December 21st. In fact, the ancient bond that man has with fire is known, considered since the dawn of its appearance as the primary source of life, a fertilizing and purifying element of nature; Likewise, scholars are aware of the ritual fires that from Persia to Normandy, from Russia to Wales, the ancient inhabitants of Europe and the Near East lit in honor of the Sun God during the longest night of the year.
