Silhouette Photography Contest
A silhouette is a solid dark shape against a light background, completely devoid of internal details, shadows, or textures. The primary expressive element here is a clean, easily readable outline.
We are looking for works where a silhouette (of a person, animal, or object) dialogues with the space: set against a sunset sky, dawn mist, a glowing window, or a snowy horizon. Detail is unnecessary. What matters is the expressive line, precise composition, pose, and the emotional resonance between the figure and the background. The minimalism of the frame enhances the essentials — gesture, mood, and scale.
Shooting techniques are unlimited (natural or staged backlighting, long exposures). We value a strong sense of form, skillful use of 'air' (negative space), and a story told through nothing but the outline.
Accepted:
- The subject (people, animals, objects) rendered as a solid dark shape without internal details or shadows
- Backlit photography: against the sky, sunset, a window, fog, or snow
- Minimalism: a clean background, 'air' (negative space), and an expressive outline
- Any shooting technique
Not Accepted:
- Images where facial features, clothing folds, or textures are visible inside the silhouette
- Complex, busy backgrounds where the outline is lost and unreadable
- Silhouettes artificially created or darkened in a graphic editor
