It is found predominantly in tropical lowland forests stretching from southern Mexico to northern Argentina.The head and neck are bald with skin colors varying from yellow, orange, blue, purple, and red, and it has a noticeable orange fleshy caruncle on its beak. he plumage is largely white with gray to black flight and tail feathers.
One theory suggests its name comes from a Mayan legend where the bird was believed to be a messenger between humans and the gods, personified as a lord or king.
