These are differences in graphics, in place in the Latin alphabet, in sound, in the meaning of the name, in status, and even in gender.. So, Austria (feminine, translated from Latin "Southern" part of the Reich) has its own sovereign name - ÖSTERREICH - Eastern Reich (masculine and with the highest status of power). China has been calling itself ZHONG GUO -钟国 "Middle Power" for the 3rd thousand years, and India 3rd thousand years BHARAT (भारत). Greece has been called since the time of Homer ЕЛЛАДА(ELLAS) etc. At the UN General Assembly 2018, Japan on its official plate instead of English «JAPAN» put endonym as a sign of sovereignty NIPPON (although in Latin, and not with a couple of their hieroglyphs日本). By the way, the Universal Postal Union has long referred to РОССИЯ as ROSSIJA, not in English Russia ...
UN experts have long been engaged in the standardization of the names of states and classify endonyms and exonyms as objects of special cultural heritage - with priority for endonyms. After the Hellenic globe of Crates (2nd century BC) and the Latin globe of Behaim of 1492, after 5 centuries of globes in separate languages, a radically new one was presented in Moscow for the first time - the international multilingual Globe-endonym (2008-21), on which, in addition to Latin and Cyrillic scripts have hieroglyphs and other scripts.
