Full body shots of the Common Mormon Butterfly catterpillars (Papilio polytes) I found a week ago, feeding on curry leaf plant and decided to rear them.
P. polytes have complete metamorphosis and passes through distinct egg, larval, pupal, and adult stages. It goes through five instars of larvae stages.
The fifth or final instar larvae bears drastic changes in physical appearance from previous instar. The newly exuded larvae become light green but after one day this color gradually changes into pure green.
P.S. They are in 5th instar of their larval stage.
Check out the second one doing weird activity, but I love the ones that stand up and act evil when disturbed. ?
